Field Rules are tools that make data entry faster and more accurate. A field rule can generate the value of a field, either as the result of a calculation, or as an auto-increment value. A calculation can use any Xbasic function or method and any field value.

You use the Field Types tab to create calculated and auto-increment fields. A calculated field is typically based on the values of one or more other fields in the current record. Sometimes, it captures the current date or time. The auto increment setting generates a sequence of unique alphanumeric values. The most common application is to create unique values for primary keys.
